Summer Internship

Qualifications

1. Attending or have completed college coursework.

2. Preference given to majors in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Child Development and Urban Studies.

3. No experience required. A willingness to live with 6 adolescents and work with a team of mental health professionals in providing residential care.

4. 20 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Broad Responsibilities

The Summer Intern Direct Care Worker assumes a supportive and trainee role to the Supervising Direct Care Worker. The Summer Intern is trained in the job of a Direct Care Worker and will acquire the training to fulfill the job of a full-time Resident Services Direct Care Worker in phases. Summer Training Goals

1. Structure and Nurture : create an atmosphere of warmth, openness and safety with limits that encourage each youth to be responsible for him or herself. Administer consequences for behavior.

2. Holistic Milieu Treatment: provide for the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of each youth. This includes meals, health care, supervision and transportation. Implement the day- to-day treatment plan, including counseling, working with clients on treatment issues and facilitating communications among peers.

3. Home Maintenance : maintain the home in a clean and orderly fashion, reporting maintenance and replacement needs. Assign and assist clients in accomplishment of routine , age-appropriate chores.

4. Household Operations : manage the daily operation of the home including the budget, shopping and the maintenance of the allowances of the youth.

5. Academic Encouragement: oversee the participation of youth in school by maintaining routine contact with school officials, assist the adolescents in areas of academic difficulty and monitor the progress of each youth.

6. Reporting and Documentation: prepare daily and monthly reports on clients for records; provide input for the treatment team in formulating the treatment plan; provide incident reports.

Remuneration

Internships are volunteer. We do arrange room and board.
